Episode 1

Cardinal Wolsey manipulates Henry into agreeing to sign the 'Treaty of Universal Peace' with France to stop the upcoming war. Henry agrees and makes plans to travel to the 'Field of Cloth of Gold' to meet with Francis the French King. Elizabeth Blount, the kings current mistress visits Wolsey and informs him that she is carrying the Kings child. Lord Buckingham makes plans to assassinate the king and place himself on the throne however his plans are haulted when he finds Charles Brandon sleeping with is daughter.

The friendship between England and France is shaken at the 'Field of Cloth of Gold' ceremonies when Henry challenges the French King to a wrestling match and looses, however Moore is on hand to persuade the king to go ahead and sign the treaty. Once back in England Henry emplores Wolsey to seek an alliance with Charles V, King of Spain who is now the Holy Roman Emperor. Henry hopes with his help, he can defeat France. The Duke of Buckingham's plans to assassinate the King are revealed and he is executed for Treason. Henry celebrates the birth of his bastard son by Elizabeth Blount and takes Mary Boleyn for his next mistress.

Charles V, nephew to the Queen comes to visit court, with his presence Henry makes every effort to disguise the growing distance between himself and his Queen whom he no longer loves. A masque is held to entertain the Spanish Ambassador and Henry, for the first time comes face to face with Anne Boleyn, a beautiful lady-in-waiting to the Queen. From the first glance Henry is obsessed by the very mention of Anne's name and later dreams of her. For her part, Anne breaks off her relationship with Thomas Wyatt.

Princess Margaret is sent to Portugal to marry the decrepit King on the orders of her brother, who before she left 'promised' her that when the old king did die she would be permitted to marry any man of her choosing. Soon after the wedding night the King is dead and Margret fleas with Charles Brandon and marries him in secret. Meanwhile Henry is falling deeply in love with Anne Boleyn, and with the growing tension between himself and Catherine he implores Wolsey to find him a way to divorce Catherine and take a new Queen.

Henry asks the alluring Anne Boleyn to become his official mistress, whom he would honor and love above all others. She refuses his offer and becomes the first women in England to say no to the King which drives his passion on for her and he promises that one day he will marry her. However Charles V becomes a threat once again when he releases King Francis I. Henry decides to once again make alliances with the French in a bid to bring Charles V down, who, if Henry put his wife aside would surely invade to protect his Aunts interests.

King Henry sends his most trusted servant, Cardinal Wolsey on a mission to make the Church accept Henry's please for a divorce. Meanwhile he grows more and more in love with Anne, whom plants suspicion in his mind about Wolsey's true motives. When Wolsey returns with bad news for the couple, Henry looses confidence in his cardinal.

Henry is shaken with fear when one of his friends William Crompton dies of the sweating sickness, which is spreading like wild file across England. When it finally reaches London, with the Queen and Princess Mary safe in Wales he shuts himself up at the court, but is soon forced to flee when the sickness kills one of his servants. Further more news soon reaches him that Anne Boleyn has caught the illness and is not suspected to live. Henry faces turmoil and fear whilst he fights to live and worries about the life of his dearly beloved.

Pope Clement sends Cardinal Campeggio to England to oversee the court deciding upon the legitimacy of Henry's marriage to Katherine of Aragon. Katherine refuses to talk in court and sends the court into despair when she kneels at the feet of the King and begs for mercy. Though still enamored by Anne Boleyn, their relationship hangs in the balance as the king looses faith in Wolsey's ability to get him the divorce.

Episode 9

Frustrated and angry that she will not let him go, Henry argues with the Queen about his divorce, which only angers Anne more. Cardinal Wolsey is stripped of office and authority and banished from court. The King sets Sir Thomas More in his place. Anne Boleyn introduces the King to new theories that suggest the King, in his realm is above God and has the divine right to choose his own way.

Episode 10

In desperation Cardinal Wolsey writes to Queen Katherine, once his enemy, begging for her help. The Queen receives his letter, but so does the King. Accused of treason Wolsey is arrested and taken to the Tower where he later commits suicide. Henry learns more about the Lutheran theories and becomes more convinced that going against the Roman Catholic Church is his only way to get a divorce. Anne and Henry take their relationship to the next level.
